Find your platoon sergeant. The army knows that good leaders are made, not born. Therefore, mentorship is recognized as a necessary element of building good leaders. Every new lieutenant is paired with a seasoned noncommissioned officer (NCO)—a leader who has risen through the ranks, has 10 to 15 years’ experience, and yet is de jure subordinate to the lieutenant.   When we talk about the basics of leadership and why they are important to a leader, we should understand the Army is built upon them. They are prerequisites to Soldier success. A former noncommissioned officer-in-charge, who I consider a leader and mentor, introduced me to the four R's; the right place, the right time, the right uniform, and do.

A classic leadership book, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change" was first published in and continues to be one of the bestselling business books — 10 million copies sold later. The book is so influential, it has inspired presidents, CEOs, and people of all occupations from around the world.   Army Leader's Book (LB) is designed to keep track of your Soldiers' important, but non-sensitive information in order to better lead them and maintain their readiness. LB can track your Soldiers' APFT, Weapons, Body Composition, Training and MedPros dates and data. You can track absences and LB automatically calculates your daily PERSTAT. Other sections include: PERSTAT to track leave, /5().

I agree, if anything a leaders book is whatever you want to place in it that can assist you in doing the duties of an NCO. I know several units that have a set standard NCO leaders book which has specifc items that are required for all NCOs, but, I think that you can spend more time shoving useless stuff in them than actually using them. ABOUT THE PROGRAM The U.S. Army Chief of Staff’s Professional Reading List is divided into six categories: Strategic Environment, Regional Studies, History and Military History, Leadership.

So I am in my first leadership position, in charge of 3 other medics. I want to make an army leader book. Many sergeants above me have strongly recommended I make one.

From what I am tracking, it is basically a binder with all your soldiers' pertinent information inside. It takes big brass ones for a field-grade officer to write a book about how America’s generals should have told their Vietnam-era leaders that the war was dumb.

A recent email from a reader asked simply if there is a Military Leader reading list. As a professional who credits books with providing a sizable portion of my development, I was embarrassed to respond in the negative.

Though I often write about what I learn from books (here, here, and here), I have neglected to compile a list. This post is a partial remedy. Army Song. 8 CHAPTER. NAME. Leader’s Book. Equipment seems to break just when it’s needed. This is especially true with communications equipment. One minute a communications check with the platoon leader is successful and the next minute you can’t reach anybody.

Most of the time, good operator PMCS will prevent this from happening. The U.S. Army today confronts extraordinary complexity in the strategic environment with new and emerging missions competing with core warfighting requirements to challenge Army professionals.

This reading list is intended to serve as a guide to the many topics worthy of professional consideration, contemplation, and serious discussion.Leadership Function and Styles.

Leadership function refers to the main focus or goal of the leader. An instrumental leader is one who is goal-oriented and largely concerned with accomplishing set tasks.

We can imagine that an army general or a Fortune CEO would be an instrumental leader. E xpressive leaders are more concerned with promoting emotional strength and health, and ensuring that.
